Workshop based on a peer-reviewed article titled
"The Role of the VAGUS NERVE in Speaking and Singing"
What roles does the vagus nerve play in speaking and singing?
✨ Join us ✨
This workshop is based on my research article titled ‘The Role of the Vagus Nerve in Speaking and Singing’. This research paper was published by Routledge in Voice and Speech Review, an academic, peer-reviewed journal and will present the outcomes of the literature review process. The article can be found here:
https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/23268263.2024.2416265
There will be two segments:
The first part of the workshop will be dedicated to a presentation that will dive into the topic of the vagus nerve and its role in vocalisation, respiration, and the nervous system, explaining often misinterpreted details. Here, I take the research outcomes and make them digestible for you (without losing key insights).
The second part of the workshop will go beyond the research and focus on atypical and unique practical exercises that can be immediately used in daily life. Here, we answer questions like “What should we do with this information?” and “How should we apply the gained knowledge into practise?” In this section, we explore effective tools and embody the information.
Every participant will have an opportunity to:
-
learn about the vagus nerve,
-
gain tools that control the voice in stressful situations,
-
restore balance in the body,
-
release unwanted tensions,
-
(re)connect with authentic sounds,
-
and explore the connection between the human voice and internal somatic processes.
✨ ALL WELCOME ✨
“In summary, this paper revealed specific intertwining between the larynx/pharynx, crural diaphragm/lungs, nervous system, and brain via the vagus nerve branches. This demonstrates that learning to speak or sing is not linear but rather a gradual and dynamic experience that should be incorporated into vocal teaching, not only through vocal exercises, but also through other parts of the instrument, the whole human body.”
This short paragraph is from my research paper which will serve as the foundation for the workshop.
